Join Rabbi Hannah for Year Cycle Learning Circle at Reformation
How does the Jewish holiday cycle work? What are the animating ideas, themes, and visions of its practice? Are there spaces for dissent, doubt, or disaffection in the calendar, or is practicing tantamount to “believing?” What is the basic grammar of a Jewish celebration, and how do we carry it out if we are not yet experts? These questions and more will be the subject of our time together.
A group of us will meet monthly this winter and spring to explore ideas, texts, and wisdom from Jewish tradition. We’ll meet on seven Fridays at 3pm at Reformation (212 E Capitol Street NE), and one rogue Sunday at 9:45am at DPA -- see calendar above.
Say more about “exploring ideas, texts, and wisdom from Jewish tradition.”The wisdom found in Jewish texts—both ancient and contemporary—can be surprising, complicated, delightful, weird, mysterious, perplexing, and fun. We read these texts broadly and generously, and we will count on everyone to add their unique voices and perspectives to our conversations.
Can I play it by ear?
We do ask that you have some skin in the game, as we are doing the work of building a group of friends. This is more like, “I do this every month this year" than "I drop in when I can."I'm into this. What do I do now?
Register here if you'd like to participate. And, if you like, forward this to a friend or two, too.
